Leopards of Yala - Sighted Recently

Male

Rathmal Wala 4:5 Male (2014) [YM 07/Harak Hora]

Rathmal Wala 4:5 male is one of the biggest and the most confident males we can see in the Southern part of Yāla block 1. He is notoriously known as the “Harak Hora” or Cattle Thief. In December 2017, there was a very interesting observation where he was seen mating with his own mother.

Pahalahaenthota 3:3 Male [YM 29/Brutus]

This dominant male leopard rules over a big territory that stretches from the Katagamuwa Wildlife Sanctuary into the Northern Sector of block 1 and up to the Warahana Bridge adjoining block 2. He is fondly known as “Brutus” due to his massive size.

Mōdharagala 2:3 Female [YF 29/Monika]

Modaragala 2:3 female was first photographed at Medha Pāra in May 2012. Then in November 2016, she was spotted again at Medha Pāra, and in the same month, she was spotted on the Modharagala. It seems that by that time she established her territory there.

Kotigala 3:2 Female (2014) [YF 20/Cara]

Kotigala 3:2 female was first photographed as a cub in October 2015, near Tanki Gala and Boralu Wala of the Main Road near Kotigala. She was a fairly confident female even at that young age.

Kaluwara Bōkkuwa 2:3 Male (2017/18) [YM 43/Steve]

Kaluwara Bōkkuwa 2:3 male was born in late 2017, with his sister. He grew to be well extroverted while his sister was a bit introverted. By mid-2019, this male cub and his mother started to move towards the South of Yāla block 1. In 2020, he was seen exploring a large area including Ūraniya, Welmalkema, and Kotigala.

Idhdha Gala 2:4 Male (2017/18) [YM 40/Caeser]

Idhdha Gala 2:4 male was first photographed in August 2018, at the Gōnagala Wewa area and at Galalukada Wewa. He has not been seen, since mid-2019.

Galalukada Wewa 5:4 Male [YM 06/Sathan]

Galalukada Wewa 5:4 male is one massive male leopard that was first seen in April 2017 (for identification). He has also been sighted around the areas of Sathmaga, Pemdas Alley, Galalukada Wewa, and New Road.

Female

Galalukada Wewa 3:3 Female [YF 42/Cleo]

Galalukada Wewa 3:3 female is the resident female in the area of Galalukada Wewa, Sath Vila, and Sathmaga Āra. In early 2020, she was seen with the Rathmal Wala 4:5 male (Harak Hora/Cattle Thief) at Galalukada Wewa (Which is her prime territory).

Galalukada Wewa 3:3 Male (2017) [YM 32/Charlie]

Galalukada Wewa 3:2 male was born in mid-2017 near the Galalukada Wewa area with his brother, the Galalukada Wewa 3:2 male. In late 2019 and in early 2020, this male started to explore new areas. Once he was seen at Ehelagas Wala of Medha Pāra a few times.
