Leopards of Yala - No sightings for the Last two years

Male

Ginikasayā Wala 2:3 Male [YM 05/Lucky]

This male was a big male who was mostly seen around the Jamburagala area, Tanki Gala, and Jamburagala – Gōnagala Road. Ginikasayā Wala 2-3 male was first photographed for identification in August 2016, at Ginikasayā Wala Road, near Jamburagala.

Gerimas Pokuna 2:2 Female (2015) [YF 37/Dark Eye]

She was one of the most easily distinguishable leopards in the park due to the striking difference in her eye colors. Her right eye is creamy colored like an owl’s while the other had a rich honey hue to it. This situation is known as Heterochromia iridium. She was initially recorded in 2016, around Gerimas Pokuna in the North part of Yāla block 1.

Gerimas Pokuna 1:2 Male (2015/16)

Gerimas Pokuna 1:2 male was born near Gerimas Pokuna in 2016. His sister is Gerimas Pokuna 2:2 female but currently, there is no photographic evidence to confirm their mother.

Ganga Pāra 2:2 Male (2009)

Ganga Para 2:2 male was first photographed in May 2010, at Rakina Wala. Then in 2011, he was seen around Hadun Oruwa Bund, Yāla Junction, Ganga Pāra, Digan Wala, and Suduwelimulla.

Galalukada Wewa 3:2 Male (2017) [YM 33/Carlos]

Galalukada Wewa 3:2 male was born in mid-2017 near the Galalukada Wewa area with his brother. This male started to explore new areas by early 2019.

Ehelagas Wala 2:3 Male (2013)

The first record of the Ehalagas Wala 2:3 male was in November 2013, at Komā Wewa. This male has been photographed around Komā Wewa and Ehelagas Wala of Medha Pāra in 2014 and in early 2015. No records have been found about this male, after that time.

Digan Wala 2:3 Female (2010/11) [YF 25/Ruby]

Digan Wala 2:3 female was first photographed at the Ākāsa Chethiya Road, Medha Pāra Road (close to Rawum Wala) in October 2011, with her mother Kaluwara Bōkkuwa 2:4 female.

Darshana Wewa 2:3 Male

This big male has only been photographed near a very famous landmark in Yāla block 1 called Mōdharagala, in 2014. Being located in the North section of Yāla National Park, that area is within close proximity to the border of block 1.

Darshana Wewa 2:2 Male (2011)

Darshana Wewa 2:2 male was first photographed in 2011 as a cub, close to the famous Darshana Wewa area with his mother, the Warahana 2:3 female. Even as a cub, he displayed some confidence around jeeps. But he has not been seen, since February 2012.
