Leopards of Yala - Males

Mahaseelawa 4:3 Male (2010)

Mahaseelawa 4:3 male was born in 2010, in Mahaseelawa with his sisters, the Mahaseelawa 2:2 female and the Mahaseelawa 2:3 female 1. By April 2011, this male cub became so well built and it was seen on the famous Kotigala. But there are no confirmed sightings after 2011.

Kotigala 3:2 Male [YM 15/Galiver]

Kotigala 3:2 male was a huge male leopard found around the areas of Kotigala, Jamburagala, Ūraniya, Weli Āra, and Mahaseelawa between the period of 2010 -2014. He was last photographed in August 2014, at Weli Āra.

Kohombagas Wala 3:3 Male

Kohombagas Wala 3:3 male was first photographed for identification in October 2006, at Kotigala. He was frequently seen with the big male leopard around the areas of Kotigala, Ūraniya, Kohombagas Wala, and Welmalkema. His last sighting was recorded in 2012.

Walas Wala 3:2 Male [YM 24/Adam]

Walas Wala 3:2 male was first photographed in August 2014, at Walas Wala near the Warahana Junction. Altogether, these five leopards made the once-in-a-lifetime, memorable sighting of five leopards (leap of leopards) in 2015, at Warahana.

Thalgasmankada 5:4 Male

His immense territory stretched all the way from Warahana in the North of the park down to Patanangala in the South of the park. He got nicknamed “Scarface” because of the scars on his face. He was also fondly known as “Kan Kotā” which means “One with the Short Ears” in Sinhalese.

Suduwelimulla 3:2 Male (2014) [YM 11/Hitler]

Suduwellimulla 3:2 male was first photographed in July 2014, at Suduwelimulla. From the start, he was a healthy male and was good at socializing with his mother. After a long hiatus, he returned to Gōnalahaba in July 2020.

Sathmaga 3:4 Male (2011) [YM 28/Alexander]

Sathmaga 3:4 male was born in early 2011, around the Welmalkema area. He managed to survive there and moved North from his birthplace. By 2014, he was seen around the Sathmaga area. He successfully maintained his territory with a few other big males who lived around the Mōdharagala area.

Meynert Wewa 5:4 Male (2011)

Meynert Wewa 5:4 male was born in early 2011, around Ruk Vila. The trio of siblings was quite famous in Ruk Vila. His brother is the Meynert Wewa 4:3 male and his sister is the Meynert Wewa 4:4 female. Their mother is yet unknown.

Meynert Wewa 4:3 male was born in early 2011, around Ruk Vila with his two siblings. The trio of siblings was quite famous in Ruk Vila. His brother is the Meynert Wewa 5:4 male and his sister is the Meynert Wewa 4:4 female. Their mother is yet unknown.
