{"id":1612,"date":"2020-12-22T15:07:07","date_gmt":"2020-12-22T15:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/?p=1612"},"modified":"2024-03-20T07:16:09","modified_gmt":"2024-03-20T07:16:09","slug":"modhara-gala-34-male","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/modhara-gala-34-male\/","title":{"rendered":"M\u014ddharagala 3:4 Male (2017) [YM 27\/Michael]"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\">[Gala = rock]<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M\u014ddharagala 3:4 male was born in late 2017, around the M\u014ddharagala area with his siblings, the <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/modhara-gala-33-female\/\" target=\"_blank\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">M\u014ddharagala 3:3 female<\/mark><\/a>,<\/strong> and an unidentified cub (who went missing after the first sighting). Their mother is the <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/modhara-gala-23-female\/\" target=\"_blank\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">M\u014ddharagala 2:3 female<\/mark><\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They were first seen in February 2018. The mother and the cubs were occasionally seen around M\u014ddharagala and Ehelagas Wala of Medha P\u0101ra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By March 2019, he separated from his mother and moved toward Kotasiyabale and Andhun Oruwa Wewa. The same month, he was seen at Digan Wala, sharing a kill with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/pan-wala-22\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Pan Wala 2:2 male<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/yala-junction-22-female\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Y\u0101la Junction 2:2 female<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since April 2019, together with the Pan Wala 2:2 male, the M\u014ddharagala 3:4 male interacted with the Yala Junction female and her female cub. These two males shared a few kills with this family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On 30<sup>th<\/sup> May 2019, the M\u014ddharagala 3:4 male and Pan Wala 2:2 male made an axis deer kill at Digan Wala, joined together (which is unusual). Later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/suduwelimulla-33-female\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Suduwelimulla 3:3 female<\/span><\/strong><\/a> also joined the two lads to partake in the kill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 2020, around the Kotasiyabale, there was a serious fight between the M\u014ddharagala 3:4 male and Pan Wala 2:2 male. Pan Wala 2:2 quickly seized the initiative and asserted his dominance over the M\u014ddharagala 3:4 male.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In late February and early March 2020, M\u014ddharagala 3:4 male was seen in Suduwelimulla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, since mid-2020, M\u014ddharagala male didn&#8217;t grace the area much with his presence. Since mid-2022 he is back in the game with a bone to pick and an attitude to win. He&#8217;s clearly done being the underdog. Since April 2022, he has been making regular patrols in the Northeast area of the park <strong>(Andhurn Oruwa, Kotasiyabala, and Koma Wewa)<\/strong>. And it seems like even the mighty <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/pan-wala-22\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Pan Wala male<\/mark><\/strong><\/a> is not daring enough to challenge the new and improved M\u014ddhara Gala male.
