{"id":1026,"date":"2020-12-08T20:13:46","date_gmt":"2020-12-08T20:13:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/?p=1026"},"modified":"2024-06-24T19:49:28","modified_gmt":"2024-06-24T19:49:28","slug":"mahaseelawa-22-female","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/mahaseelawa-22-female\/","title":{"rendered":"Mahaseelawa 2:2 Female (2010-2019) [YF 09\/Rekha]"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\">[Mahaseelawa = name of an area]<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mahaseelawa 2:2 female was first seen and photographed in 2010, at Mahaseelawa with her brother, the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/mahaseelawa-43-male\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Mahaseelawa 4:3 male<\/span><\/strong><\/a> (2010), and her sister, the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/mahaseelawa-23-female\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Mahaseelawa 2:3 female<\/span><\/strong><\/a> (2010). She was observed to be a fairly shy female. She managed to establish her territory around <strong>Kud\u0101seelawa, Mahaseelawa, Pattiya Wala, and Jamburagala Road.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She gave birth to her first known litter of a single male cub in 2014, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/katagal-wala-23-male\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Kaetegal Wala 2:3 male<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. She gave birth to her second known litter of two female cubs in 2015, around the areas of Mahaseelawa and Pattiya Wala. They were the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/pattiya-wala-22-female\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Pattiya Wala 2:2 female<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/pattiya-wala-23-female\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Pattiya Wala 2:3 female<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. She mothered a litter of two male cubs in 2017, around Mahaseelawa. They are the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/mahaseelawa-32-male-1\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Mahaseelawa 3:2 male 1<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/mahaseelawa-32-male-2\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Mahaseelawa 3:2 male 2<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. That was her third known litter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, she was challenged for her territory by the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/bola-gala-22-female\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">B\u014dla Gala 2:2 female<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/koti-gala-32-female\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Kotigala 3:2 female<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the months of March\/April 2019, she was seen with two new cubs around Mahaseelawa and Jamburagala Road. That was her fourth known litter. On 4<sup>th<\/sup> March 2019, she was seen with her new cubs at the company of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leopardtrails.com\/leopardsofyala\/leopards-of-yala\/weli-aara-22-male\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Weli \u0100ra 2:2 male<\/span><\/strong><\/a> (a dominant male) around B\u014dla Gala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later in 2019, one of the cubs was found dead.
